A beautifully embossed with gilt late 19th century publisher's red cloth binding. Smooth spine with gilt title and author, gilt and embossed tropical designs; spine gently rubbed and cloth slightly frayed at ends. Bright gilt and embossed boards are mostly clean, edge wear and cloth frayed at corners; similar elaborate tropical pattern on top board, gilt and embossed publisher logo on bottom board. Joints rubbed, cloth along rear joint split at head. Binding slightly shaken and some pages loose but remain bound. a.e.g.
Text block mostly clean; light, even age-toning throughout. Numerous woodcuts throughout including seventeen full page engravings depicting Borneo topography and culture.
In all, an attractive and rare book pertaining to travel in 19th century Borneo.
