409 pp. Special edition prepared for "les Magasins du Bon Marche" department stores of Paris. A handsome early 20th century publisher's period half leather binding. Smooth, gilt-ruled leather spine displays gilt title on contrasting leather label and small floral gilt device. Half leather, marbled paper covered boards are bright and clean, exhibit only very trivial edgewear. Supple leather gently rubbed along rear joint and head of rear board. Binding tight and sound. Top edge red. Mostly clean internally with minor light foxing only along the page edges. Twenty-four wonderfully detailed and graphic full page illustrations throughout. Frontispiece depicts portrait of author, "Fenelon (1651-1715) - d'apres le portrait de Vivien grave au burin par Saint-Aubin." Text in French. In all, a handsome early 20th century half leather binding for this illustrated late 18th century classic. Book measures c. 71/2" H x 5 7/8".
