History of the English Church - 1704

Author: John Inett
Full Title: Origines Anglicanae: Or A History Of The English Church. Beginning where Bishop Stillingfleet has ended his History of the British Church And Containing An Account of the Affairs thereof, from the first planting of the Christian Religion amongst the English Saxons, til the Norman Conquest
Published:

London: T. H for M. Wotton, 1704

An uncommon early- 18th century folio in period full calf binding. Spine divided into compartments with six raised bands. Blindstamped boards with concentric rectangles and devices in corners (refer to photo); leather is worn and cracked, some loss of leather along the joints into the board surface as seen (rear board is nicer), front board detached. Internally mostly very clean with only the most minimal light foxing on preliminary pages; title page in alternating black and red type. Text block is tight and sound. Well worth sending to the binder.

This work is mainly concerned with tracing the progress of Papal aggression on the liberties of the English church. Good condition for this example of a rare history of the English church covering the period years 401 through 1216.

Book measures c. 8 3/8" W x 12 3/4" H.   390 pp. plus index.
