Vindication of the Church of England - 1740

Full Title: A Vindication of the Government, Doctrine, and Worship, of the Church of England, Established in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth: Against the Injurious Reflections of Mr. Neal, in his late History of the Puritans. Together with a Detection of many false Quotations and Mistakes in that Performance
Published:

London: C. Davis, 1740

A mid 18th century half leather binding, crudely rebacked at an early date in a slightly different color leather. Hand-written title on contrasting paper title label, raised bands; leather rubbed and worn. Gilt ruled boards rubbed, extremities chipped. Text block cracked down center; front board detached, text block otherwise tight and sound. Mostly very clean internally with only a few pages exhibits scattered foxing and soiling. Much read, but still largely clean.

This appears to be a rare mid-18th century publication in which the Church of England retaliates against late 17th century charges. Book measures c. 5 1/4" W x 8" H. 362 pp.
