Boston Almanac - 1842
128 pp. Attractive period ornately embossed red cloth binding. Central gilt title and hourglass on front board, both boards intricately blind-stamped with face of Father Time at top, central printer's trademark on rear board. With a nice large folding map, "Plan of the City of Boston", which depicts the city as it then was with less than 100,000 residents. Included is a massive directory to all that is Boston (events, businesses, occupations, etc) with blank pages for entries (the only entry is on Jan. 1 1842 where we may read in pencil that the weather was "pleasant".). A day by day calendar of what happened in 1841 proves a great source of town gossip. Charming woodcuts throughout advertise for local businesses and services. Mostly very clean and tight internally. Book measures c. 3 1/2" W x 5 1/2" H. Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
