Addison, Steele, Johnson, Know, Newton, and Others who have Discussed with a Gay or Grave Pen, the Present and Future Happiness of Mankind
Published:

New York: Charles Spalding, 1831

428 pp. Period full maroon grained leather binding, smooth spine with gilt rules and title, boards outlined in gilt border. Spine chipped at head as seen in photo. Contents a bit shaken, couple of signatures sprung, scattered foxing and spotting. Engraved frontis, edge of sheet trimmed, image torn and with early repair.

Still, a remarkable early 19th century book discussing at length and in great detail marriages, domestic happiness, jealous wives, the "duty of a good wife", conjugal relationships, "the snares of personal beauty", etc. Many fascinating hours of reading here we should think.

Book measures c. 4 1/2" W x 7 1/2" H.
