Charming and quite scarce mid-19th century chapbook relating to the alphabet (ABC) and of note Whales and Whaling. Consists of 99 pages, in four individually paginated parts as follows: 1). 24 pages of short stories ("stories & Hymns") 2). "Peep at the Old World"- 24 pages. 3). "The Poetical Alphabet and other Hymns"- 24 pages and finally 4). "Stories about Whales and the Whale Fishery"- 24 pages.
Profusely illustrated (hundreds) with charming woodcuts, often several to a single page. Wrappers slightly soiled, some scattered light spotting and soiling internally, but surprisingly good, tight condition for such a fragile juvenile of this era. Blue paper spine appears to be quite old but not certain it is as issued from the publisher.
Scarce, if not rare- we couldn't find another example of it on-line.
Booklet measures c. 3 3/4' W x 6 1/16" H.
