Lady's Book - 1849-50

Author:  Louis A. Godey
Full Title : Godey's Magazine and Lady's Book
Published: Philadelphia, 1849-50

"Lady's Magazine and Book," compiled by Louis A. Godey, in Philadelphia, 1849-50.

The quintessential mid-19th century Lady's book which was composed of various stories and essays aimed to advise and edify women of the day on such matters as home crafts, etiquette, dress, etc. and how, in general, things may be done better, or more easily.

With nine (only?- of 12?) fold out color plates, three fancy lithographed color plates, and numerous other engraved images.

19th century black half leather, gilt lettering and ornamentation (as issued) on spine.  Measures c. 6 3/4" W x 10 1/4" H.

In VG to VG+ overall antiquarian condition; with some scuffing and rubbing to boards and spine. Binding displays some shelf wear, but nothing offensive or severe. Binding is still tight and holding firmly. Some general internal scattered soiling and small staining- still eminently readable and fun to browse through.

In all, a solid, rather appealing example of this full year of issues bound in the 19th century as one.
