Bound in period 3/4 black morocco leather, marbled boards and endpapers. Deckled edges. Limitation cited and numbered at front. Numerous illustrations in each volume. Internally clean and fresh. Bindings show some minor edge chipping, front boards starting on 2 of the volumes. Spines in 5 compartments, raised bands, gilt devices and lettering, t.e.g. as well. Nice shelf appearance.
Two titles are "Alton Locke" and "Hypatia". Most likely part of a larger set, but these stand alone and would be perfect for shelf decoration in a library- much like you see in magazine ads, etc. Each book measures c. 8 3/8" H x 5 7/8" W x 1 5/8" thick.
