Note: To see 3 available close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. "Persiae Regnum sive Sophorum Imperium", issued 1597 by Magini for Ptolemaeus "Geographiae Universae...". An attractive 16th century map of Persia and the Middle East as it was known in the late 16th century. A most charming and well engraved depiction of the region with a beautiful floral calligraphic style and a nice "stipple" effect engraved into the water areas. Numerous tiny cathedral symbols are used for important towns and cities across the map. Includes from Armenia and Arabia Deserta across Iran over to Hindostan. Also shows the Caspian Sea incorrectly shaped and the Persian Gulf, etc. Obviously scarce by virtue of the date alone, a most desirable and frameable 16th century original map relating to Persia In near excellent, clean antiquarian condition (for a sheet of paper over 400 years old remember!) with expert and beautiful full hand coloring on a c. 8 7/8 " W x 6 1/2 " H sheet. (image size is c. 6 5/8 " W x 5 " H). (A small worm hole way out in the left margin of no consequence as seen.)
